2015

Let's wrap up 2015 in the movie department
In my opinion 2015 was a good year for the film industrie. We've had Big Hero 6 and Inside Out of animation, Cinderella for live action, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the Martian in SciFi department (I haven't seen Star Wars yet), A little Chaos, Far From the Maddening Crowd and Brooklyn for drama and the last Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect 2, Scorch Trials and Insurgent for the Young Adults. Green Wing
Genre: Comedy (Technically a tv series...)

Unlike Grey's Anatomy and E.R. the focus here is completely on the relationships between the doctos, HR department and Staff Liaison. No nasty diseas, plane crashes or ferry explosions. They do cover pretty serious topics like examinations, incest, bullying, illnesses, etc. It is best to take it all with a pinch of salt. Whilst Grey's Anatomy falls under the genre 'hospital drama', this series is about 2miles out. There is some tiny bit of drama, but that can be reduced to about 30minutes out of the total 7 hours of two seasons. Safe to say it is the best remedy for the day after a Christmas party with your colleagues. (read more)

It's so fluffy I'm gonna die! - Agnes, Despicable Me
Fathers don't like to admit it when their daughters are capable of running their own lives. It means we've become spectators. Bianca lets me play a few innings. You’ve had me on the bench for years. - Walter Stratford, 10 things I hate about you. (read more)

"M has been chasing me for Christmas decorations,..." - Q, SPECTRE
Genre: action, adventure, thriller

SPECTRE picks up where Skyfall left off. MI6 is still damaged from the terrorist attack, there is a new M in the picture and a new C as well. Bond is on a mission from the first second of the movie, an aftermath from Skyfall. A cryptic message from M sends him an a trip around the world. "Here we are now, entertain us!" Smells like teen spirit in Neverland - Pan
Genre: Adventure, fantasy and family

12 year old orphan Peter gets taken away by the pirate crew of captain Blackbeard and ends up in Neverland. There he gets acquainted with James Hook and together they find a way to escape the thight grip of Blackbeard and they flee into the wilderniss of Neverland where they have an encounter with the locals. Well, you saw me naked... - Beca, Pitch Perfect

No movie recommendation today, but many! Although I'm not going to give the various reasons as to why you should see a particular movie. Instead I'm going to give one quote for each movie :) Each and every single one of these quotes are said in a certain way by the actor that gives the performance an incredible human touch and therefore very memorable.

Let's do thissss

"What the fuck is 'Project Elrond'?" - the Martian movie 'review'
Genre: SciFi, adventure, humor, action

The abbreviation LOL is applicable in this movie. Literally. Big time. Also, watching-with-hands-before-mouth-because-your-jaw-dropped-from-amazement is applicable. Man, I was exhausted when I walked out of the theatre. My body went from tense to relaxed to tense to relaxed again in matter of seconds. That can only mean one thing: the movie is a gem. Sometimes you need advice from someone you don't know (Favorite movie quotes part 2)

Here's another Movie quote Monday for you :) Hope you enjoy this one. It might sound very silly, but sometimes you need to hear advice from people you don't know, or charachters/screenwriters in this case :)

Favorite movie quotes part 1

I think we've established by now that I'm a pretty big movie fanatic. The good, the bad and everything in between. And every once in a while, whilst watching a movie, a quote catches my attention. Most of the time the quotes are pretty random, but some have a bit more deeper meaning. You'll notice what I'm talking about x) Half the time I can't explain why a certain phrase catches my eye. They just do. So for the next few weeks I'm going to upload a blog post with a few of my favorite movie quotes. Instead of Movietime Monday, it'll be Movie quote Monday. It's still movie related, so hey ;) (read more)
Minions
Genre: Animation, adventure, humour,...

As the start of this blog post might already have given away: this movie has not blown me away as I hoped it would. I absolutely love Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. They're hilarious, witty, well thought through, they're for all ages. I'd say that Minions is a kids movie through and through. I'm not gonna lie, half way through the movie I got bored and I even contemplated for a second to just leave. My mind was drifting off to things I could do in the afternoon, what I had to pack for my trip to Croatia, etc. So yeah, this movie was kind of a let down. (read more)
Inside Out
Genre: Animation, adventure, humour,... Disney Pixar!

The first trailer starts with the quote: Do you ever look at someone and wonder, "What is going on inside their head?" Well, I know. Okay, I know Riley's head.  You get the impression we're just going to see a funny movie about emotions and how they controll our actions (most of the time). But Disney Pixar wouldn't be Disney Pixar if there wasn't some deeper meaning we can all learn something from. We're following Riley's emotional roller coaster ride during the first steps of growing up. Her primary emotion during childhood was Joy, with Fear, Anger, Sadness and Disgust,... (read more)

Pitch Perfect 2
Genre: comedy, music

I have to admit, my first reaction wasn't: "Waaaauw! Better than the first one!" Although that is the opinion of the majority who've seen the movie. Music, acting, singing, humor, directing, etc. everything was on point, but the storyline was a bit 'meh'.

You're meeting Beca and the other Bella's in their senior year, three years after Pitch Perfect. The Bella's are doing great and they get to perform for president Obama. But, as faith wants it, something goes terribly wrong??? (read more)

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Genre: sci fi, adventure, action, freaking Marvel!

So the movie picks up where Captain America: Winter Soldier ended. S.H.I.E.L.D doesn't excist anymore and what's left of Hydra has a valuable weapon that the Avengers need to reclaim. That's how the movie starts, right in the action. You get some spectacular scenes, cheezy one liners and over all proper Joss-Whedon-Avengers-style-action-scenes. And yes, I laughed out loud. But soon our superheroes encounter some new players in the field: Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff - Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and the Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff - Elizabeth Olsen). The latter's special power is (read more)

A Little Chaos
Genre: costume drama, romantic, comedy

The story is set in 17e Century, during the time of King Louis XIV. André Le Nôtre (Matthias Schoenaerts) is the principal gardener of Louis XIV, but for a new project in the gardens of Versailles, Le Nôtre is seeking for a new approach. The king is asking for heaven on earth, perfection, and sometimes you need to give something they didn't know they wanted. That is what Le Nôtre did by hiring Sabine de Barra (Kate Winslet). He designed the basics of the 'Bosquet salle de bal' and de Barra decorated it by her style, which is a little chaotic. (read more)
Tamara Drewe
Genre: Comedy, drama

The story is set in Ewedown, a ficticious village in Dorset. In such small villages everyone knows each other and gossip is never too far away. Tamara Drewe grew up in Ewedown, but escaped to London and became a columnist with a life changing nose job. When she has to return to her home town to sell her late mothers house, her world and the world of all the villagers are turned upside down. Nicholas Hardiment, serial cheater on his loyal wife Beth, is interested in the new and improved Tamara, and Andy, Tamara's ex-boyfriend, has to admit that his feelings for her are still there. But it's drummer boy Ben Sergeant who wins over Tamara's heart, or does he? (read more)

Cinderella
Genre: disney fairytale

I guess there is no need for me to explain what the story is about? Cinderella is probably one of the most well know stories in the world, next to Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. And unlike most of the remakes, this pictures stays faithful to the Disney animated version as well as the original story by Charles Perrault. It literally screams Disney from start to finish.

As for the review of 'it's made for kids, not for adults', I do pitty that person. To lose your inner child. I'd say it is a perfectly suitable for... (read more)

Big Hero 6
Genre: animation, adventure

The plot is, like basically every Disney movie, to overcome the bad guy (or queen). So together with 4 other friends, Hiro and Baymax go to battle and try to save San Fransokyo. Now, the biggest difference with all the other Disney films is the fact that the characters don't burst out into songs about their thoughts and emotions. You might compare it to Toy Story or Monsters and Co, but those are from Disney Pixar. Like Frozen and Wreck-it Ralph, Big Hero 6 is just a Disney product... (read more)
